We've not had much success till now with 'room time' for my 3yo. What with a small house and a shared bedroom. However, my 2yo is now 'staying up' most days so there is now a 'room'.

Since the holidays I have decided to introduce a staggered room time. Alternating 20mins on their own in their room with 20 minutes on their own with me.

The concept is a good one. We all agree. We have had success in the last 3 days with both boys enjoying playing uninterrupted with their toys and with their mum.

We have also run into a few tantrums when one person arrives downstairs early and thinks the other got a better deal with mum, or when they chose computer games (see PBS Kids) as the activity with mum but then realised that they didn't actually get to play with mum in their dedicated 'mum' time.

It is something that will need some getting used to and I think some scheduling of activities but so far I think it's a keeper. I intend to stretch it out towards an hour. this should take up most of the baby's afternoon sleep time.

Today I think they both needed a sleep instead as they have since crashed on the lounges. It will need a little tweeking but I am excited about the children allowing each other some daily 'space'.
