Tip of the Day #44 Plan Next Year

I tend to be a last minute planner but since I've entered the world of motherhood I've realised it is not a practical way for a family to run. Particularly if you don't plan your time out! It only leaves you more tired.

We've tended to not ask for help till the last minute or until crisis time. With 3 children, 3 and under, no body else really wants your crisis time thrust on them. Although, I must say this year my parents have risen to the occasion very graciously.

So next year we are planning ahead. Last night, we got out the calendar and wrote in "date nights" for every second month and we've planned 4 one week holidays in the year so my husband never works longer than 3 months at a stretch.

I admit we have not been able to plan holidays for a few years as they have been taken up having babies but this year with no babies on the horizon we are planning time out.

The other thing I am planning, in advance, is some bigger outings with the kids. Twelve outings. Technically, one every month. I am going to invite grandparents, aunties, or friends with their kids depending on the days etc. This way the kids will have some special occasions to enjoy and a better adult to child ratio which makes it possible. Also, it means, I might for once, be initiating a family activity instead of just tagging along on someone else' plans.

  1. I am hoping to get out with my husband once a month for the coming year... it might be a challenge because of it his unpredictable schedule, so I'm still trying to figure out the details. It's my goal. Hope you are enjoying your Christmas and New Year!

Once a month sounds great! Hope you can do it. Can you believe I lost my calendar after all that effort! Now I have to do it again! I did take the opportunity, though to make a really lovely calendar with photos of the kids, so I think I'll enjoy looking at it a little more this year.
